Be A Volunteer

Events such as The Great West Run could not take place without the support of the our generous Racemakers, who give up their valuable time to help us deliver this community event. Racemakers will play a crucial role in bringing the event to life! Simply by offering a smiley face and plenty of encouragement, as well as important details about the run to those taking part and spectating will make the experience great for so many people.

If you’re interested in getting involved we would love to hear from you.

INDIVIDUAL RACEMAKERS

Water Station: There to set up the water station, top up water bottles, hand out water bottles and clear away the station once all the runners have passed.

Course Marshal: There to direct runners along the route, the perfect role for those with a little running experience! You’ll direct spectators, make sure that roads remain clear for the runners and feed information back to Event Control.

Start / Finish Line: There to direct runners into the correct timing pen before the start of the race. You’ll also help clear the start/finish line ready for the return of the half marathon runners, as well as helping to put up and remove branding, offering runners encouragement and making sure there is a steady flow of finishers.

VOLUNTEER GROUPS

Many of the voluntary roles are perfect for local organisations and larger groups of people.

Each group of 10+ that volunteers at the event will receive a donation to their organisation.

ROLES IDEAL FOR GROUPS & ORGANISATIONS

Water Station Teams: There to set up the water station, top up water bottles, hand out water bottles and clear away the station once all the runners have passed.

Baggage Teams: There to manage the baggage store throughout the event, make sure all bags are labelled, to store baggage neatly and securely, and to return bags to runners post-event.
