Event Postponement

It is with huge disappointment that we confirm the 2021 edition of Exeter’s Great West Run will be postponed from Sunday 23rd May 2021 to Sunday 22nd May 2022.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly and is one that we have given careful consideration to. Over the last year the pandemic has been more disruptive and unpredictable than any of us could have imagined. We had hoped that 2021 would have brought more certainty to the events world and that we would be able to guarantee delivering a safe and excellent event for you all. Sadly, with the emergence of the new more transmissible strains it has become clear that holding an event of this size and scale in May would not be a responsible decision to make for runners, staff, volunteers or the local population of Exeter.

With an increasingly congested events calendar and a lack of suitable dates later in the year we have taken the decision to move to 2022. This will ensure that we can return bigger and better than ever for a real celebratory event. We will be working hard to make changes and improvements to the event afforded to us by the longer than usual planning time.

We would like to say how sorry we are for the inconvenience, and to thank everyone for your passion, enthusiasm and dedication in the lead up to the event. We know you will be disappointed, especially as this is the second postponement you have had to endure and hope you understand the difficult decision we had to make.

The good news!

Every runner with a place in the 2021 Exeter’s Great West Run will be automatically moved to the rescheduled event on Sunday 22 May 2022.

Charities and sponsors with runners who are unable to take part in the postponed race will be able to substitute other runners for the rescheduled 2022 event.

Next Steps

  • Nothing is required from you; you have automatically been moved to the 2022 event.
